Atelier Noir

A tailoring house with forty years behind it and no pictures worth showing. We rebuilt the image library from scratch — one location, one light, and clothes photographed as objects rather than outfits.

The problem

Forty years of archive and not one frame that showed how the cloth actually behaves. Everything had been shot flat, on white, under a beauty dish — the exact lighting that hides weave, drape and weight.

What we did

One empty gallery, north-facing, and nothing but the daylight coming through it. We shot across two days to catch the light at four different angles, and let the shadows fall wherever they fell rather than filling them.

The result

Sixty finished frames, a shot list the studio can re-run every season, and a lighting note short enough to fit on one page. The campaign ran across print and outdoor for eight months.
